Riding the waves
of this seemingly
decrepit brain,
chemicals crest and fall.
Underneath,
I'm the same
after all.
Blossoming fades,
troughs reveal
the single most
precious thing as
the bottom drops out,
nothingness is gained,
everything is gone.
Bliss
floods my stomach
and veins,
and in rains
the most delicious brain!
When the words, "In the trough," came to me, as well as the rest of the poem, I became curious about the word, trough, in this context. I wondered if it had other definitions besides the trough of a wave and a long container used for feeding piggies their slop. I looked it up in the dictionary and was surprised to learn that an additional definition is, "a long, narrow, open container in which to mix chemicals." How perfect-my brain is awash with chemicals. I love this added layer of meaning and how very clever my muse is!
